Neurotechnology is more commonly being utilised in sports and high performing industries like the military, to train individuals to handle more stress and remain sharp and focused under pressure.
In sports , athletes are already physically trained to an extreme level. However there is now an understanding that the brain governs the amount of physical output at any given time. The brain can ‘put the brakes’ on the amount of physical energy exerted by limiting resources and forcing an individual to slow down. It has been discovered that perception of effort or RPE is a heavily contributing factor in what slows down or stops physical performance even in well trained individuals.
Due to this understanding, many neurotechnologies are now geared towards training the brain to handle more mental and physical load in order to alter perception of effort. When RPE is reduced, performance can be maintained at a higher level for longer periods of time.
